Yellow Ants Help Increase Pomelo Yield by 20%, Improve Fruit Quality, and Reduce Costs
The demand for safe, organically grown fresh fruit is rising globally. Vietnamese farmer, Mr. Trinh Dinh Mao, found a solution to pest control and increasing pomelo yield: yellow ants. In 2024, Mr. Mao partnered with local agricultural agencies to introduce yellow ants into his 1.5-hectare orchard. By providing food and facilitating their movement with ropes between trees, he established a thriving ant population. The ants effectively control pests, eliminating the need for pesticides and reducing costs previously around 30 million VND annually. This natural pest control also improves fruit quality and sweetness. The result is a 20% increase in yield and healthier, tastier pomelos. While harvesting requires careful attention to avoid ant bites, the benefits of this sustainable agriculture practice significantly outweigh the challenges.
