Wholesale Markets Union Supports Global Fruit and Veg Day
The World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) has endorsed the creation of an International Day of Fruits and Vegetables. Announced at their recent general assembly in Italy, the initiative is backed by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and AIAM5, a global alliance promoting fruit and vegetable consumption. This project, supported by WUWM member Lo Valledor market in Chile, aims to raise awareness of the health benefits of fresh fruit, encourage sustainable agriculture practices, and reduce food waste. The proposed day seeks to improve global nutrition and food security through increased daily consumption of fruits and vegetables. A WUWM spokesperson emphasized the potential for positive change, urging collaborative action to establish the International Day.
