Water Returns to the Fields, a Source for the Winter-Spring Crop
In the face of drought challenges, Hai Duong province is actively preparing for the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop. The first water release for irrigation took place in January, with a second round in February, bringing much-needed water to the fields. The Hai Duong Irrigation Sub-Department is working with local units to manage water intake effectively, utilizing hydroelectric reservoir discharge schedules and high tides for gravity-fed irrigation. They are also monitoring salinity levels to ensure water quality for agriculture in Vietnam. Gia Loc District, a key agricultural area, is working to overcome drought conditions by increasing water storage and managing resources efficiently. New irrigation works and canal renovations are improving irrigation capacity. Farmers in Hoang Dieu Commune are harvesting remaining vegetables, flooding harvested areas, and prioritizing irrigation pumping for high and distant fields first. With careful preparation and efficient water management, Hai Duong farmers are hopeful for a successful winter-spring harvest.
