Wapa Predicts Southern Hemisphere Apple Production Growth
The World Apple and Pear Association (Wapa) recently announced its Southern Hemisphere apple and pear crop forecast. A 5.5 percent increase in apple production is projected, with South Africa leading at 1.47 million tonnes. Gala apples remain the most popular variety, and apple exports are expected to rise. Pear production, however, is anticipated to decrease by 3.3 percent, primarily due to a decline in Argentina. The EU also revised its apple forecast, projecting a decrease, while pear production is expected to increase slightly. US apple and pear production are both forecasted to be lower than the previous year.
