Vinh Long Upgrades Sweet Potato Value Chain Towards Organic Production
Vinh Long province is collaborating with Japanese corporation Wago to explore investment opportunities in agriculture, particularly in sweet potato production. Wago specializes in agricultural product processing and high-tech agriculture, aiming to improve post-harvest technology and production efficiency. Sweet potato, a key crop in Vinh Long, faces challenges due to unstable export markets and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The province seeks to establish stable outlets for sweet potato farmers by attracting investment in deep processing factories. Wago proposes utilizing modern freezing technology to process and export sweet potatoes to North America and Europe, potentially increasing the crop's value. Vinh Long is also transitioning towards organic farming practices, aiming for 1,500 hectares of organic crop production by 2030, including sweet potato, to enhance product quality and competitiveness in the global market.
