Vietnam's Coconut Exports Top $1 Billion
For the first time in 14 years, Vietnam's coconut exports surpassed $1 billion in 2024. Fresh coconut exports alone reached $390 million, a remarkable 61% year-on-year increase, driven by growing global demand. This success is partly attributed to the August 2024 agreement with China, granting official access for Vietnamese coconuts. China now accounts for 25% of Vietnam's coconut export value, solidifying its position as the primary market. While Vietnam enjoys a competitive advantage with its sweet, refreshing coconuts and competitive pricing, the industry faces challenges. Insufficient domestic supply and rising global demand have led to increased raw material prices, impacting processors. Despite 200,000 hectares of coconut trees yielding 2 million tons annually, the Vietnam Coconut Association highlights the need for increased and stable material sources to meet export demands.
