Vietnamese Durian Exports to China Resume
Vietnamese agricultural products are departing from Bao Nguyen port in the Tan Thanh border gate area, destined for China. Hundreds of tons of durian have recently been exported through the Huu Nghi and Tan Thanh border gates. According to Hoang Khanh Duy, Deputy Head of the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone Management Board, 26 container trucks of durian have crossed the border. While data for February 5th is not yet available, Mr. Duy confirmed that fruit exports to China are proceeding smoothly, contingent upon complete documentation required by both countries. Chinese news website 163.com reported that approved durian testing facilities in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, and Ca Mau are now operational. China mandated Auramine O testing for durian from Vietnam and Thailand in early January 2025 after finding residues of the dye in Thai durian. China approved Vietnamese testing facilities on January 17th, alongside those in Thailand. Auramine O, an industrial dye, is classified as a Group 2B carcinogen by the World Health Organization (WHO) and has been banned in Chinese food products since 2008.
