Vietnam Spends Over US$1.5 Billion Importing Fruits and Vegetables from the US and China

Vietnam imported over US$2.4 billion worth of fruits and vegetables in 2024, a 24% year-over-year increase. China and the US dominated the market, with imports exceeding US$1.5 billion combined. Vietnam spent nearly US$1 billion on Chinese fruits and vegetables, a 25% increase, while imports from the US reached US$544 million, a staggering 64% increase. Apples and grapes were among the most popular imports, offering diverse varieties to satisfy various consumer preferences. Trade agreements, such as the RCEP, facilitated this growth by reducing tariffs and trade barriers. The competitive pricing of Chinese and US produce, particularly apples and grapes, contributed to their popularity in the Vietnamese market.
