The Miraculous Recovery of Agricultural Production After Natural Disasters

More than three months after Typhoon Yagi, villages show signs of revival. Government policies provided capital and seedlings, while over 20,000 agricultural extension workers guided restoration efforts. This led to increased output in agriculture, forestry, and fishery. The 2024 Disaster Forum in Yen Bai City highlighted the severe impact of natural disasters in Vietnam. Typhoon Yagi and subsequent floods caused significant damage, including 345 deaths and missing persons, widespread destruction of homes and crops, and extensive damage to infrastructure. Economic losses reached an estimated 88.748 trillion VND, with agriculture bearing a significant portion at 38.086 trillion VND. Despite the devastation, the swift response from the government, communities, and international aid ensured that those affected received timely assistance. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development implemented support policies, deployed extension workers, and facilitated the distribution of aid. Adjusting crop structures, providing support for replanting, and applying advanced farming techniques contributed to a faster recovery. The livestock and aquaculture industries, while heavily impacted, also benefited from government support and are on the path to recovery.
