Stakeholders Collaborate on Cape Town Container Terminal
Stakeholders in the fresh fruit export value chain, including the Western Cape Government and Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), are collaborating to improve operations at the Cape Town Container Terminal (CTCT). This public-private partnership (PSP) will install two 500kVA generators, providing 120 additional reefer container plug points. Funded by various agricultural organizations and the Western Cape Government, this upgrade will significantly increase the terminal's capacity to handle fresh fruit exports, especially during peak season and high winds. This will minimize delays and ensure efficient shipping. The project aims to improve overall output by enabling a separate reefer stack for loading during challenging weather conditions. Agbiz CEO Theo Boshoff emphasized the importance of a strong logistics sector for the agricultural industry and praised the collaborative effort. Western Cape Minister Dr. Ivan Meyer highlighted the project's alignment with the province's strategy to triple exports by 2035 through improved port efficiency. TPT's Western Cape Managing Executive, Oscar Borchards, affirmed TPT's commitment to enhancing Cape Town exports and strengthening relationships with stakeholders. This initiative showcases successful collaboration and paves the way for future PSP projects.
