Solving Big Problems with Organic Chicken Farming

Members of the Tan Tien Hill Chicken Cooperative in Tan Khanh commune (Phu Binh) have significantly improved their production and income by adopting organic farming practices. With support from the Center for Organic Biotechnology Research, Transfer and Services, farmers like Mr. Truong Van Huong have transitioned from relying heavily on antibiotics to using biological products and bio-bedding. This shift has not only reduced disease in chickens by 90% but also shortened time to market. Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, another farmer, highlights the cost and labor savings achieved through organic techniques, emphasizing the simplicity of incorporating microbial preparations into chicken feed. While a stable market for organic chicken remains a challenge, the success of the project demonstrates the potential for wider adoption. The reduced reliance on antibiotics and decreased environmental pollution benefit both farmers and consumers, paving the way for healthier and more sustainable agriculture in Vietnam.
