Soc Trang Province Exceeds Rice Production Target in 2024
The Soc Trang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development announced a successful year for agricultural production in 2024. Despite facing early and intense saltwater intrusion, the province's rice production surpassed expectations. Thanks to proactive measures by local authorities, over 2.1 million tons of rice were harvested from 338,047 hectares, a 5.21% increase compared to 2023. Favorable market conditions resulted in rice prices being significantly higher than the previous year. Aquaculture also performed well, with brackish water shrimp production exceeding 204,000 tons. The province also saw growth in fruit tree cultivation and forestry, and maintained strict control over fishing activities to combat illegal practices.
