Significant Potential for Technology Investment in the 1 Million Hectare Rice Project
The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Sorimachi Vietnam Co., Ltd. recently held a conference to attract investment in digital and green technologies for the "Sustainable Development of 1 Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Production Associated with Green Growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" project. Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam emphasized the need for technology to reduce costs, optimize production time, and increase value for farmers. The project aims to involve approximately 2 million farmers and 1,230 cooperatives, creating significant demand for investment in areas like smart agriculture and agricultural byproduct processing. The Ministry is calling for domestic and foreign investment in technologies such as row seeding, efficient irrigation, and traceability. They also acknowledged Sorimachi Group's contribution in providing production management software to Vietnamese agricultural cooperatives and encouraged their participation in smart agriculture solutions. The Ministry is developing an operational mechanism for the project, including infrastructure investment and a measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) plan that meets international standards, in collaboration with the World Bank and Vietnamese credit institutions. The conference recognized eight leading cooperatives and included a memorandum of understanding signing, signifying a commitment to digital and green transformation in Vietnamese agriculture.
