Seafood Exports Show Positive Growth
Vietnam's seafood exports totaled $774.3 million in January 2025, a 3.3% year-on-year increase. This positive growth, despite the Lunar New Year holiday, signals a strong start to the year for the Vietnamese seafood industry. Shrimp exports were a key driver, reaching $300 million and accounting for 39% of total seafood export turnover. This strong performance aligns with a global trend of rebalancing in the shrimp industry, as producing countries adjust to shifting supply and demand dynamics. While shrimp exports thrived, challenges remain in other sectors. Pangasius exports declined by 25.3% due to decreased demand in key markets. However, a recent trade resolution with the United States offers hope for renewed growth in this sector. The global seafood market is expected to remain volatile throughout 2025, influenced by fluctuating demand and changing consumer preferences. Despite these challenges, the Vietnamese seafood industry is poised for continued growth, driven by strong performance in key sectors like shrimp and emerging opportunities in markets like the US.
