Seafood Exports Reach USD 10 Billion Target
In 2024, Vietnam's seafood processing and export industry hit the USD 10 billion mark, a 12.7% increase compared to 2023. Shrimp exports reached USD 4 billion (up 16.7%), tuna reached nearly USD 1 billion (up 17%), and pangasius reached USD 2 billion (up 9.6%). The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP) celebrated this achievement, acknowledging the challenges overcome through innovation and adaptability. Vietnam currently ranks third globally in seafood production, contributing significantly to the nation's economy. Vietnamese seafood enterprises are increasingly utilizing technology to improve product quality and expand into new markets. Despite a challenging global economy, Vietnam maintains its position as a leading seafood exporter. The Food and Agriculture Organization estimates the global seafood market at nearly USD 180 billion, indicating substantial room for future growth. Key priorities for continued success include addressing market barriers, adapting to climate change, and promoting sustainable development within the industry.
