Seafood Exports Reach $10 Billion, with Hopes for 2025
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) celebrated reaching $10 billion in seafood exports for 2024. This milestone was achieved despite global economic challenges, including inflation and geopolitical instability impacting global trade. VASEP Chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Thu Sac, highlighted the industry's resilience in overcoming these obstacles. Shrimp, pangasius, and tuna exports led the way, contributing significantly to the overall figure. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Phung Duc Tien, praised the collaborative efforts of the government, businesses, and farmers in achieving this success, highlighting government support and the sector's adaptability. He acknowledged the challenges ahead, such as addressing the IUU yellow card and climate change, but expressed confidence in the industry's ability to surpass $10 billion in 2025, aiming for $11 billion. This optimism stems from improved raw material sources, expanded export markets, and a focus on product quality.
