Seafood Exports in January 2025 Show Significant Growth Disparities Across Markets
Vietnam's seafood export market experienced significant growth disparities in January 2025. The Chinese and Hong Kong markets surged by 64.9%, while the US and EU markets declined by 16.0% and 17.6% respectively. According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), total seafood export turnover reached 774.3 million USD, a 3.3% increase year-over-year. Shrimp exports performed strongly, reaching 300 million USD, a 24% increase, driven by global supply-demand rebalancing. However, decreased consumption in China, a major market for Vietnamese shrimp, poses a challenge. Pangasius exports faced difficulties despite strong price growth due to limited supply. While demand from China and the EU remains stable, fingerling shortages and fluctuating tariffs could hinder growth. The tuna industry experienced a 17.7% decline in exports, but anticipated tariff changes in the US market offer potential for recovery in 2025. Overall, fluctuating global demand and shifting tariff policies will continue to shape Vietnam's seafood exports in the coming year.
