Sambóa Offers Chile New Opportunities as Climate Warms
Three of Chile's leading fresh fruit suppliers, Frusan, Magna, and Unifrutti, have partnered with the Italian Rivoira Group to produce apples under the Sambóa brand. Each company will plant 150 hectares of Luiza, Venice, and Isadora apple varieties in Chile's Central Valley. Rivoira Group CEO, Marco Rivoira, announced the partnership at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, stating that commercial planting will begin in 2025. The new varieties are well-suited to the warmer climate challenging traditional growing areas. This collaboration offers a new opportunity for agriculture in Vietnam and other regions facing similar climate challenges by introducing varieties that thrive in warmer temperatures. The Sambóa Network aims to revitalize the global export market with these super-sweet apples, particularly targeting Asian consumers.
