Saltwater Intrusion Threatens Hau Giang Agriculture
Water levels in Hau Giang province rose rapidly with the tide from January 28th to February 1st, 2025, exceeding alert levels. Saltwater intrusion from the Hau River and West Sea reached several districts, including Chau Thanh, Nga Bay, Long My, and Vi Thanh city. Salinity levels peaked at 3‰. However, the Cai Lon - Cai Be irrigation system mitigated the impact, and abundant freshwater resources ensured sufficient supply for agriculture and other needs.
