Salinity Levels Rise in the Mekong Delta

Meteorological and hydrological authorities report rising salinity levels in the Mekong Delta's rivers, intruding further inland. On December 27th, the Co Chien River's salinity reached 4.4 g/l 30km from the river mouth. The Hau River measured 5.9 g/l at Cau Quan, 30km from the river mouth, on December 26th. While the Tien River's salinity remained lower at 0.24 g/l, 46km inland, Vinh Long province issued a level 1 warning for saltwater intrusion. The intrusion is expected to impact agriculture products, particularly crops and livestock with low salinity tolerance. Authorities advise farmers to store fresh water for irrigation and daily use.
