Rubber Exports Maintain High Prices
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam exported 160,632 tons of rubber in January 2025, valued at 298.68 million USD. While export volume decreased by 23.7% compared to January 2024, the value increased by 0.6% due to sustained high prices. The average export price reached 1,859 USD/ton, a 32% increase year-over-year. The Lunar New Year holiday impacted January's export activities, with a 32.5% decrease in volume and a 34% decrease in value compared to December 2024. China remained the largest importer of Vietnamese rubber, accounting for 78.7% of total volume. Despite lower export volumes to major markets like India and South Korea, significant increases were seen in exports to Malaysia and Indonesia. Global rubber consumption continues to outpace production, contributing to the sustained high prices. Reduced tapping during the leaf change season, from February to May, further limits supply.
