Road Construction Damages Irrigation System, Leaving Over 5 Hectares of Farmland Abandoned

In Khe Mang village, Yen Bai province, road construction connecting several provinces has severely damaged the irrigation system. The construction unit, responsible for the road project, excavated and filled the irrigation canal without restoring it, leaving approximately 5 hectares of agricultural land without water. This has forced over 15 households to abandon their terraced fields, previously used for two rice crops annually. Local resident, Mr. Dang Toan Lieu, stated that his family lost the ability to cultivate their land due to the lack of water. The village head, Mr. Dang Phuc Ly, confirmed that villagers' complaints to authorities remain unresolved. Tan Phu Co., Ltd., responsible for irrigation works, and the construction unit assessed the damage, noting broken pipes and buried canals. Despite official documentation mandating the construction unit to ensure water supply for agricultural production, no action has been taken, leaving the fields fallow and raising concerns about food security.
