Rice Prices Today, February 22, 2025: Slight Fluctuations in Paddy Rice

Domestic rice prices on February 22, 2025, saw slight fluctuations for certain paddy rice varieties. While some regions like Kien Giang experienced slow trading despite higher asking prices from farmers, other areas like An Giang and Can Tho saw slight price increases with low transaction volumes. Dong Thap saw increased buyer interest for Dong Xuan fragrant rice due to higher offered prices. Prices for popular varieties like IR 50404 paddy rice remained around 5,400 - 5,600 VND/kg, while OM 5451 and OM 18 saw a slight increase of 100 VND/kg. Export rice prices remained low, with Vietnamese 5% broken rice at 394 USD/ton. This is due to increased global supply, particularly from India easing export restrictions after two years. Increased competition from major exporters like India, Thailand, and Pakistan, coupled with a record global rice production of 532.66 million tons projected for the 2024-2025 crop year, contributes to the downward pressure on prices.
