Rice Prices Today, February 21, 2025: Slight Fluctuations
The rice market on February 21, 2025, experienced minimal price changes, with only a 100 VND fluctuation for certain varieties. Trading activity remained slow across many regions, with sporadic purchases and hesitant buyers. In Kien Giang, stable rice prices were met with low demand, while new rice trading in An Giang was sluggish. Can Tho saw few transactions for Winter-Spring rice, with traders primarily focused on previously purchased stock. Soc Trang reported stagnant trading with suspended purchases. Prices for IR 50404 rice ranged from 5,400 - 5,600 VND/kg, while Dai Thom 8 decreased slightly to 6,400 - 6,600 VND/kg. OM 5451 saw a minor increase to 5,800 - 6,100 VND/kg. Export prices for Vietnamese rice remained steady, with standard 100% broken rice at 310 USD/ton. Low domestic prices are impacting farmers, particularly those renting land, with many facing potential losses for the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop. High rental costs coupled with low rice prices make it challenging to recoup investment, leaving farmers dependent on subsequent, often less profitable, harvests.
