Rice export prices fall to 399 USD/ton
Vietnam's rice export prices have plummeted to 399 USD/ton. This price is significantly lower than competitors like Thailand, India, and Pakistan. This unprecedented decrease marks a sharp decline from the previous price range of 420-535 USD/ton and a 40% drop from the peak of 663 USD/ton in late 2023. The price drop affects various rice types, including 25% broken rice. Increased global supply, particularly due to India's re-entry into the market, and high global rice inventories are contributing factors to the falling prices. While fragrant and high-quality rice remain less affected, the overall trend indicates a significant shift in the global rice market. Vietnam exported 500,000 tons of rice in January 2025, a slight volume increase but a 10.4% decrease in value compared to the previous year.
