Reflecting on the Past, Deciding to Switch to Organic Production
In 2013, Mr. Tran Danh Dai started a 5-hectare farm in Quang Ninh, Vietnam, growing oranges and raising livestock. By 2017, overuse of chemical fertilizers had degraded the soil. Remembering simpler farming methods, Mr. Dai transitioned to organic agriculture, using manure and fish protein liquid for fertilizer. He learned composting techniques, incorporating soybeans for added nutrients. Initially, yields decreased due to pest infestations as he eliminated pesticides. However, after a period of adjustment, his orange trees now produce 3-4 tons annually. His livestock, including 300 free-range chickens and pigs fed a natural diet, also thrive. The pork, free of growth promoters, is known for its superior quality. Mr. Dai's farm, now a recognized green agriculture model, reduces pollution and produces high-quality products. He has expanded into agritourism, adding a fish pond, landscaping, and diverse livestock to attract visitors.
