Rach Mop Sluice Gate to be Completed Ahead of Schedule

The Rach Mop sluice gate, the largest saltwater intrusion prevention project in Soc Trang province, is in its final construction phase. Located in Nhon My Commune, this project is a key component of the Southern Hau River Bank Water Resources Control Project. With progress exceeding 90%, engineers and construction workers are working tirelessly, even through the Tet holiday, to ensure its completion ahead of the March 2025 deadline. This accelerated timeline will allow for early operation, enabling crucial saltwater control and freshwater preservation for local residents. The two main sluice gates have already been transported from Hai Phong and are currently being installed. According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Hung, Deputy Head of the project's management board, the project is on track to control salinity during the peak of the 2025 dry season. Upon completion, the Rach Mop sluice gate will be managed by the Soc Trang Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Comprehensive training will be provided to ensure proficient operation of the new technology. The project will benefit over 19,000 hectares of land in the region, mitigating drought and salinity and ensuring sustainable agricultural production.
