Promoting Mollusk and Seaweed Development Aligns with Green Trends
Vietnam's mollusk and seaweed production, while showing growth, presents significant opportunities for expansion. In 2024, mollusk production reached nearly 480,000 tons with exports exceeding 195 million USD. However, seaweed cultivation remains modest at 155,000 tons despite the country's vast potential. Experts at the conference stressed the need for a stronger value chain, improved processing techniques, and research into high-value seaweed products. Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien affirmed the sector's alignment with green trends, emphasizing its contribution to economic growth and sustainable resource management. He called for stronger collaboration between government agencies, research institutions, businesses, and farmers to address challenges in seed production, disease prevention, and market expansion.
