Producing Organic Fertilizer from Rice Straw Contributes to Environmental Protection
The Mekong Delta region produces a significant amount of rice straw waste annually. Utilizing this agricultural waste to produce organic fertilizer contributes to environmental cleanup, reduces emissions, and provides a sustainable income source for farmers. The Can Tho City Department of Agriculture is collaborating with research institutions to guide farmers in composting rice straw into organic fertilizer. This method helps reduce reliance on expensive commercial fertilizers and increases profits by up to 10%. According to experts, producing organic fertilizer from rice straw costs about 50% less than commercial fertilizers while improving soil and product quality. This technology combines mechanical and biochemical processes for efficient decomposition of straw into high-quality organic matter. Composting rice straw also reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to burning or burying it, contributing to sustainable rice production.
