Price Difference Between Organic and Conventional Foods Has Narrowed
The price gap between organic and conventional agricultural products has decreased. Historically, higher prices for organic apples, strawberries, and spinach helped offset the increased production costs for organic farmers. However, since 2015, organic produce prices have been declining. In 2022, as food price inflation soared, conventional food prices rose more rapidly than organic, shrinking the price difference. The Organic Trade Association noted that organic producers were hesitant to raise prices significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic due to already strained consumer budgets.
