Peruvian Piquillo Pepper Exports Decline in 2024
In 2024, Peruvian piquillo pepper exports totaled 18,605 tons, valued at US$41.9 million. This represents a 22% decrease in volume and a 21% decrease in value compared to the previous year. The decline is primarily attributed to reduced shipments to key global export markets, including Spain, Germany, and France. While the average price per kilogram increased slightly to US$2.25, this was not enough to offset the overall decrease. Spain remained the top importer of Peruvian piquillo peppers, accounting for 80% of total exports. Despite adding Colombia as a new destination, the overall number of markets served by Peru decreased. Several exporting companies, including Virú Group Perú S.A. and Green Perú S.A., managed the majority of shipments.
