Peruvian Avocado Campaign 2025 Holds Positive Expectations
In recent years, avocados have become a pillar of Peruvian agricultural exports. Despite challenges like the pandemic and adverse weather, avocado production has remained relatively stable, leading to consistent growth in export volume. While 2024 saw a 6% decrease in volume due to high temperatures and planned resting of plants, the value of exports increased by 27% due to higher international prices and strategic market placement, reaching US$1.385 billion. The main producing regions were Lima, La Libertad, and Ica. For the 2025 season (February to September), projections are positive, with an expected volume growth of over 23% thanks to rested plants. However, challenges remain, including competition from Mexico and Colombia, and ensuring favorable market prices. Europe remains the primary destination for Peruvian avocados, with nearly 403,000 tons shipped in 2024. While the United States market is dominated by Mexico, potential tariffs on Mexican avocados could present opportunities for Peruvian exporters in 2025.
