Pepper Prices Today, February 8, 2025: Heat Up with a 4,000 VND Increase
Global pepper prices on February 8th saw mixed movements. Indonesian Lampung black pepper decreased by 0.1% to 7,276 USD/ton, while Muntok white pepper also fell by 0.1% to 9,770 USD/ton. Malaysian Kuching ASTA black pepper was priced at 9,000 USD/ton. Vietnam black pepper export prices decreased, with the 500 g/l type trading at 6,500 USD/ton. Domestically, Vietnam pepper prices increased for the fifth consecutive day, rising 3,000 - 4,000 VND/kg. Prices in Dak Lak reached 156,000 VND/kg, while Dak Nong saw a jump to 157,000 VND/kg. This surge comes despite Vietnam's 2024 pepper export volume of 250,600 tons. However, declining harvests due to farmers switching to more profitable crops like durian are impacting supply. Increased durian cultivation and rising land prices have contributed to a decrease in dedicated pepper farms.
