Peach Crop Failure Leads to Soaring Prices
Typhoon Yagi caused widespread damage to peach orchards, resulting in a 40-50% loss of trees. This significant decrease in supply has driven fresh fruit prices up significantly compared to last year. Small traders report a 50% increase in wholesale agricultural products, particularly for peach branches. One farmer, Mr. Doan Van Hoat, lost his entire two-hectare peach orchard to flooding caused by the typhoon. He and his wife, who have been growing peaches for six years, had to borrow money to replant, but the new trees won't yield a profitable harvest for several years. While the peach market struggles, the kumquat market remains stable, with prices only slightly higher than last year. The abundance of kumquats is attributed to the fact that they were largely unaffected by the typhoon.
