Pangasius Exports Expected to Grow by 10%
The Mekong Delta region is expanding pangasius farming areas to meet growing global demand. Vietnam currently accounts for more than 40% of global pangasius production. In 2025, Vietnamese pangasius businesses are expected to benefit from the agreement with the United States resolving the anti-dumping duty dispute on pangasius and basa fish. Vinh Hoan Corporation, a leading pangasius exporter in Vietnam, will be excluded from anti-dumping duties when exporting to the US. The US is the second largest market for Vietnamese pangasius exports. This positive momentum has continued since the second half of 2024, with significant growth in exports to the US. In addition, Vietnam benefits from the US's increased import taxes on Chinese businesses. VASEP forecasts that pangasius exports could increase by 5-10% in 2025 due to increasing consumer confidence, lower US anti-dumping duties, and lower aquafeed prices. Along with high consumption demand in China, strong export growth is anticipated. In 2024, pangasius exports reached $2 billion, a 9% increase compared to 2023. In 2025, Vietnam is expected to benefit from tariff advantages when exporting to the US. Frozen pangasius fillets remain the primary export product. VASEP believes 2025 promises to be a year of achieving new milestones for pangasius exports, driven by stable growth in both the US and China. The World Bank's positive global economic outlook further supports this projection.
