Pangasius Exports Could Reach US$2 Billion
Vietnam's pangasius industry faced challenges in 2024, including high input costs and increased competition in the global market. Despite these hurdles, the industry achieved remarkable results, with production reaching 1.67 million tons. Export turnover in the first ten months of 2024 reached nearly US$1.67 billion, a 9.3% increase. VASEP anticipates 2024 export turnover to reach US$2 billion. The Directorate of Fisheries aims for 1.65 million tons in production and US$2 billion in export turnover for 2025. Key strategies include proactive broodstock supply, infrastructure improvements, and sustainable farming practices. China and Hong Kong remain major importers, while the US market shows significant growth. The CPTPP region also represents a substantial market for Vietnamese pangasius.
