Over 600 Million Cubic Meters of Water Saved in Vietnam's Winter-Spring Rice Production
Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) recently inspected irrigation efforts for the 2024-2025 winter-spring rice crop in key agricultural provinces. Improved water sources and infrastructure, including the Xuan Quan pumping station, enabled efficient water intake, even during low tide periods. Localities strategically utilized tidal flows to maximize water availability. As a result, over 90% of the targeted area received sufficient water, with completion expected within days. Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep announced water discharge from reservoirs would cease earlier than planned, saving over 600 million cubic meters of water compared to initial projections. This success highlights the effectiveness of Vietnam's water management strategies in ensuring sustainable agricultural practices. While Hanoi and Vinh Phuc experienced slightly slower intake due to specific crop needs, sufficient water resources remain available. MARD emphasized the importance of continuous planning and system optimization for both flood prevention and efficient irrigation to support agricultural production.
