Organic Rice Farming Boosts Profits by 30% or More
In Tam Nong district, Vietnam, organic rice farming has significantly expanded in recent years. This sustainable agriculture method has proven successful, increasing farmer profits by at least 30% compared to traditional farming. The Quyet Tien Agricultural Service Cooperative, for example, has seen its organic rice fields grow from 20 to 80 hectares in just two years. This success is due to the adoption of advanced techniques like integrated pest management, reduced fertilizer and pesticide use, and mechanized processes from sowing to harvesting. Farmers are also utilizing organic fertilizers and practicing techniques like cluster sowing, which reduces seed usage. While organic rice yields may be slightly lower, the higher purchase price offered by companies through consumption contracts ensures greater profitability for farmers. The cooperative's Senta brand rice demonstrates the potential for high-quality, organically grown products to thrive in the market.
