Organic Longan Farming Yields High Profits in Vietnam
The Nhon Nghia Longan Cooperative in Can Tho City, Vietnam, demonstrates the success of organic farming with its high-yield Ido longan variety. This disease-resistant variety allows for year-round fruit production, supplying both domestic and potential export markets. Cooperative members cultivate nearly 23 hectares, producing 450-500 tons of longan annually. Using organic microbial fertilizers, farmers achieve yields of 20 tons per hectare, selling at 15,000 - 25,000 VND/kg. With production costs around 100 million VND/ha, farmers enjoy profits of 200-400 million VND/ha/season. This success provides stable income for members and local agricultural laborers involved in harvesting and transport. The organic approach improves soil health, enhances disease resistance, and reduces reliance on chemical pesticides, resulting in high-quality, safe fruit. The cooperative's commitment to organic methods aligns with the growing focus on sustainable agriculture in Vietnam.
