Organic Greenhouse Melon Cultivation Thrives Despite Scorching Heat
Nguyen Minh Chau, an agricultural specialist, leverages his expertise in organic farming to cultivate high-quality melons and cucumbers in his greenhouse. Years ago, he consulted on a similar project before taking over the 800m2 space in Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh. He now focuses on producing fresh fruit for the local market using sustainable methods. His commitment to organic agriculture means avoiding pesticides and utilizing a compost made from cow and chicken manure. This natural fertilizer, combined with a drip irrigation system controlled via smartphone, allows him to produce an average of three harvests per year. Even during a recent heatwave that forced other farmers to pause their work, Mr. Chau's greenhouse yielded a successful melon harvest thanks to careful temperature control and pest management techniques. Each melon weighs over two kilograms, and he anticipates a strong profit of around 50 million VND. Beyond his own farm, Mr. Chau consults on other organic greenhouse projects, sharing his knowledge and passion for sustainable agriculture.
