Organic Coffee Plantation Boosts Tourism
In B'Srê A village, nestled beside Ta Dung Lake, a 58-year-old farmer named Nguyen Viet Tien cultivates a thriving organic coffee plantation. His six-hectare garden, established 12 years ago, is a testament to the growing trend of agritourism in Vietnam. Tien's farm is one of many collaborating with the Ta Dung Tourism Cooperative, demonstrating how sustainable agriculture can enhance tourism experiences. From the outset, Tien embraced organic farming practices, avoiding chemical fertilizers and pesticides. He prioritized the health of his family and friends, understanding the detrimental effects of harmful chemicals. This commitment to clean agriculture naturally aligned with the cooperative's vision for sustainable tourism. Initially, Tien faced challenges with lower yields and profits. However, through research and consultation, he mastered composting with microorganisms, utilizing readily available resources like cow and chicken manure. He learned to foster a natural ecosystem within his garden, minimizing the need for pesticides. This dedication to organic practices eventually attracted a company from Ho Chi Minh City, which offered a premium price for his entire harvest, solidifying the value of his approach. While yields remain lower than conventional farms, the higher price ensures stable profits and reinforces the long-term benefits of organic farming for both health and the environment. The success of Tien's farm highlights the potential of Vietnam's agriculture sector to embrace sustainable practices and contribute to the growing agritourism industry.
