New Rural Development Program Needed as Current One No Longer Fits
The previous New Rural Development Program prioritized infrastructure development. The current focus must shift towards a rural economy driven by green transition and digital transformation, generating employment and increasing local incomes to match urban areas. Discussions are underway for the 2026-2030 National Target Program on New Rural Development to address challenges like income disparity, inadequate infrastructure for modern agriculture, and the need for greater digital transformation in agricultural production. While significant progress has been made in electrifying rural areas and improving road access, the program needs to evolve to meet new challenges. The goal is to have over 90% of communes meet new rural standards by 2030, with a focus on sustainable development and closing the gap between rural and urban incomes.
