Nearly 433,000 Hectares Irrigated in Northern Vietnam After Second Water Intake Phase
The Department of Water Resources announced that the second phase of water intake for rice cultivation in the Northern Midlands and Delta of Vietnam has been successful. As of February 8th, 2025, nearly 433,000 hectares of winter-spring rice fields have received irrigation, representing 88.6% completion. This achievement is attributed to increased power generation from hydropower reservoirs like Hoa Binh, favorable weather conditions, and upgraded irrigation systems. Several provinces, including Thai Binh and Ha Nam, have achieved nearly 100% irrigation. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development urges continued efforts to maximize water intake efficiency and ensure sufficient power supply for ongoing operations. Coastal regions are utilizing high tides for irrigation when salinity permits.
