Mong Cai's First Organic Pig Farm in Quang Ninh
Mong Cai pigs, a renowned agricultural product in Quang Ninh, were nearly extinct due to crossbreeding. To combat this, the Quang Ninh Department of Science and Technology partnered with the Vietnam National University of Agriculture on a project to restore the breed using advanced technologies. Van Thanh Phat Cooperative now operates a 3-hectare organic farm dedicated to raising these pigs according to Japan's strict JAS organic standards. The pigs are fed a diet of farm-grown vegetables, tubers, fruits, and seafood, ensuring high-quality, chemical-free meat. This commitment to sustainable agriculture benefits both consumers and the environment. According to Ms. Chu Thi Thu Thuy, Head of the Quang Ninh Sub-Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, this model farm can serve as an example for future organic farming initiatives in the region.
