Livestock Industry Grows 5.4% Amidst Challenges
The livestock industry in Vietnam saw a 5.4% increase in production value in 2024, exceeding the 3.3% growth of the broader agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector. This growth led to increased agricultural exports, with livestock product exports reaching 533.6 million USD, a 6.5% rise from 2023. Pork production reached 5.16 million tons, poultry production reached 2.43 million tons, and total meat production reached approximately 8.26 million tons. While pig and poultry populations increased, buffalo and cattle numbers declined. Despite challenges like Typhoon Yagi and disease outbreaks, the industry benefited from lower animal feed prices and rising pork prices, encouraging farmers to maintain and expand production. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development aims for continued growth in 2025, focusing on climate change adaptation, technological innovation, and improved biosecurity.
