IPE Highlights Record US$11 Billion in Peruvian Agro-Exports in 2024
The Peruvian Institute of Economics (IPE) reported a record US$11 billion in agro-exports for 2024. However, this growth was fueled by higher international prices rather than increased export volume. While adverse weather conditions impacted global production and led to price increases for key agricultural exports like coffee and avocados, this price-driven growth masks a concerning trend: 13 consecutive months of declining agro-export GDP. This highlights the need for greater investment in the agricultural sector to boost production and ensure long-term growth. The changing global trade landscape, particularly potential shifts in the US market due to trade tensions, presents both challenges and opportunities for Peruvian agricultural exporters.
