In 2025, Double and Triple-Cropped Rice Land Cannot Be Converted to Orchards
Tien Giang Province plans to convert 2,748.9 hectares of specialized rice-growing land to annual crops or aquaculture in 2025. Districts like Cai Be, Cai Lay, and Go Cong Tay will see significant land use shifts. While farmers in certain areas have begun transitioning to durian fruit cultivation, the province clarifies that double and triple-cropped rice land cannot be converted to perennial crops like orchards. This restriction is in line with a 2024 government policy aimed at preserving Vietnam's rice production capacity by safeguarding single-cropped and upland rice land for food security.
