Impressive organic multi-cropping orchard
In Duc Co district, Gia Lai province, Le Thi Xuan's family orchard is a well-known example of successful organic farming. Xuan, a former teacher, returned to her family's land and transformed a 0.5-hectare coffee plantation into a thriving 5-hectare multi-crop orchard. She cultivates over 10 varieties of fruit trees, including durian fruit and dragon fruit, using organic methods. Initially relying on manure and compost, Xuan later incorporated high-quality organic fertilizers from Ho Chi Minh City. This combination strengthens plants, improves resistance to pests and diseases, and ensures high-quality fresh fruit. Compared to chemical fertilizers, organic farming provides sustainable growth and healthier produce. To further enhance her organic practices, Xuan implemented pest control methods like camphor bags, intercropping, and controlled weed growth. After seven years, the orchard's success has inspired other local farmers to adopt organic agriculture.
