Hong Kong Handled Record 6,500 Containers of Chilean Cherries Before Chinese New Year
Chilean cherries are a popular gift in mainland China, symbolizing good fortune, especially before the Chinese New Year. In January 2025, Hong Kong processed a record 6,500 containers of Chilean cherries, the highest number since the pandemic. These fresh fruit shipments, primarily destined for mainland China, arrived via the Cherry Express service operated by major shipping lines and were handled by Modern Terminals. This efficient operation ensures swift delivery to wholesale agricultural products markets in South China, often within an hour of unloading. Hong Kong maintains its position as the largest global export hub for this trade, processing approximately 40% of Chilean cherries entering mainland China.
