Herbal Cooperative Leaves Nothing to Waste
Thien Phuc Agricultural and Medicinal Cooperative in Thai Nguyen province is renowned for its innovative use of Bo Chinh ginseng. This cooperative, led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, transforms the entire ginseng plant into a range of products, from ginseng tea and powder to a unique ginseng hot pot base. Their circular agricultural model ensures sustainability; chickens consume byproducts, and their manure becomes organic fertilizer for the ginseng, creating a closed-loop system. This method allows the cooperative to control input quality, guaranteeing consumers safe and healthy products. Ms. Binh, known as "Binh Ginseng," recently won national recognition for her sustainable practices. Dong Hy district, traditionally a hub for ginseng growers, faced resource depletion and soil degradation. To address these challenges, Ms. Binh established the cooperative to ensure a stable income for local families and promote sustainable agriculture. Bo Chinh ginseng, a valuable medicinal plant with a rich history, thrives in the local soil. The cooperative cultivates this variety across 30 hectares, utilizing the entire plant – roots for medicinal purposes and beverages, and other parts for various applications. The cooperative's technician, Mr. Nong Trong Son, highlights the ginseng's adaptability to the local environment and the effectiveness of the cooperative's organic fertilizer. Despite facing financial challenges, Ms. Binh remains committed to expanding production and seeks support for investing in advanced drying and processing equipment.
